Irish Silver Beer Jug

Superb Irish silver beer jug, Dublin, by John Hamilton. Engraved with the arms of Archbishopric of Cashel impaling Godwin for Timothy Godwin (or Goodwyn) (1670?-1729).  It is interesting that it also has the arms of his wife, Anne Anderson, daughter and co-heiress of Charles Anderson in pretence.  He came to Ireland as domestic chaplain to Charles Talbot 1st Duke of Shrewsbury upon his appointment as Lord High Steward of Ireland in October 1713.  He was made Bishop of Kilmore and Armagh on 16 January 1714, being translated to the archbishopric ofCashel on 3 June 1727
