The Story & History

This exceptional dress ring combines the romantic appeal of an antique-style jewel with an unusually vivid combination of gemstones. Made in England in 1988, it was created in a period when jewellers were increasingly drawing upon historic forms and craftsmanship, producing richly coloured jewels with the character of earlier antique pieces.

At the centre is a natural unheated ruby, estimated at approximately 0.50 carat, flanked by two intensely coloured demantoid garnets. The particular vivid green of these demantoids is especially noteworthy, as demantoid garnets displaying colour of this intensity are exceptionally rare.

Design & Details

The ring features an antique-style carved mount, with the richly worked gold setting framing a vibrant arrangement of gemstones. The central oval ruby provides a deep pink-red focal point, surrounded by four diamonds which add flashes of white brilliance.

On either side are the two demantoid garnets, their exceptional green colour providing a striking contrast to the ruby. The combination of ruby, diamonds and intensely coloured demantoids gives the ring an unusually lively and sophisticated palette.

The carved detailing of the mount further enhances its antique character, creating a jewel that feels decorative and substantial while retaining a wonderfully wearable scale.
